Four days ago, that exclamation point after Windows would have been a sad face. But not any more! Here is a quick update:
Last July, just before my warranty expired, the hard drive was replaced. It was the second time in just a few months so we didn't have exceptionally high hopes for how long the next one would last.
Now fast forward to this week. Monday, it failed again. After many failed attempts, Brandon had the BRILLIANT idea of installing Linux (or Ubuntu) to retrieve things. And it worked! Windows was useless now, so we deleted the entire thing!
I was really nervous at first. I mean, even Brandon wasn't using Linux as his primary OS. It requires a different way of thinking and I am still learning how to use it, but I really do like it.
One slight downside is that certain programs are not available for Linux. One of those being iTunes. After some extensive research, I found a much better alternative. It's called SongBird, and I LOVE it. Even if I get Windows on a new computer (which I may not), I would still use SongBird! Definitely check it out.
Brandon consistently says how proud he is of me and how much cooler (which ultimately translates to geekier) I am than him. I'm just happy to be able to keep my computer at least a bit longer. :)
